2019 Hyundai Accent Trim Levels

Since 1994, the Accent has functioned as Hyundai's subcompact car. Over the years, the vehicle has steadily improved as a worthwhile offering in its segment. For 2019, the Hyundai Accent-which is designed as a four-door sedan with subtle hatchback exterior cues-does not change much, as it continues the nameplate's fifth production cycle. Hyundai makes a few adjustments to the content of the car's trim levels, which are the SE, SEL and Limited.

Hyundai Accent SE

At the base-level SE trim, the 2019 Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine that produces 130 horsepower and 119 lb-ft of torque, and this engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. (Only the SE comes with a 6-speed gearbox.) Couple that with a front-wheel drivetrain, and this powertrain provides a fuel economy estimated at 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. With two rows of seats that accommodate up to five people, the sedan has a passenger space of 90.2 cubic feet. The trunk opens to reveal a cargo space measured at 13.7 cubic feet. However, the Accent's 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback enable cargo space expansion into the cabin. Cloth upholstery and a 6-way manually adjustable driver seat are standard. Also standard are remote keyless entry, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, a four-speaker audio system, an AM/FM radio tuner, a USB port and an audio jack for playing media from your mobile device, and a 5-inch color touchscreen.

For cushioning and restraint in the event of a collision, the 2019 Hyundai Accent has dual front impact airbags and dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags. Other standard safety features on the vehicle include electronic stability control for keeping it on the intended driving path, traction control for combating slippage, an anti-lock braking system for shortening stopping distances, electronic brake-force distribution for appropriate allocation of stopping force to the wheels, brake assist for additional stopping force if necessary, and a theft-deterrent system that combines remote keyless entry with a panic alarm. The Accent uses a motor-driven power steering system, which relies on an independent power source (an electric motor) instead of the engine to provide sharp and precise cornering and turning, with a turning diameter of 33.48 feet.

Hyundai Accent SEL

Upgrading a notch to the SEL hitches the 1.6-liter I4 to a 6-speed automatic transmission, rather than the manual gearbox on the base-level SE. That way, you-ll have a smoother and more convenient way of shifting from one gear to the next. However, the transmission includes a Shiftronic shifter to simulate the manual gear shifting feel all the same. Plus, there's an Active ECO system, which shuts down less essential vehicular functions to avoid unnecessary fuel use. Consequently, highway fuel economy is improved to 38 mpg. On the SEL, Hyundai replaces the 5-inch touchscreen with a larger 7-inch one, and it adds two speakers on the audio system to bring the grand total to six. Other enhancements and additions include a pair of USB ports for charging mobile devices, a trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration. For safety, the SEL gets an additional driver's blind-spot monitor for increasing your area of visibility and hill start assist for preventing the car from rolling back when shifting from Park to Drive.

Hyundai Accent Limited

As the top-level trim, the Limited, like the SEL, comes with the 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission and the Active ECO system. The front seats get heating capability to bring more comfort during the colder months or cold conditions, climate control is automated, and proximity key entry (which enables you to open the door simply by having the key fob with you, rather than press a button) and push-button engine ignition for conveniently starting the vehicle without a physical key. Also exclusive to the Limited is forward collision-avoidance alert, which is designed to prevent or reduce the severity of a collision.
